Some readers have no doubt noticed that the layout of this blog changed dramatically a few weeks ago, from the old pink-and-green. That’s not the only change. My portfolio website, positdesign.com, is about 70% flipped to a beautiful brand-new template that I built for it.
pick your holiday; here’s a lil something sweet.
The last time I went to Davis, I discovered a brand-new Boston Sports Club on top of a brand-new CVS and it felt apocalyptic. That’s not my Davis Square. That said, I’ve had the Davis Square Midnight Madness event on my calendar for weeks. Besides fantastic sales at three of [...]
MBTA futuremaps
This concept came to my attention about a month ago, but it’s just fantastic enough to share. A Boston-based designer and blogger created a set of hypothetical MBTA system maps, demonstrating what a useful subway would look likeāone that would be both worth the prices we pay, and comparable to the scope of other major cities’ public transportation.
being a bad blogger
I’m been neglectful but busy (today is the last day of my summer class, and I’ve two freelance webdesign gigs going), though I will be making more of an effort to keep this current. I’m definitely a nonstop information aggregator (as evidenced by my del.icio.us account!) and will try to [...]
When Opportunity Knocks, it Sometimes Gets Pushy.
I had a spectacular time at Patrick’s wedding last weekend. The weather in Maryland was beautiful (very hot!), and it was wonderful to see friends who moved away from Boston years ago, all in one place, all celebrating two people so dear to us. I also had a chance to get to know some friends better, and to meet some great kids who I hadn’t crossed paths with yet in Boston.
portfolio public (limited time only!)
My final project (online portfolio), which I have been raving about, is actually online. Fancy that! It only exists on a Harvard University server which will be wiped clean at the end of the semester (approximately the end of May).
Keep in mind it was developed for a class assignment rather than for its intended purpose, and
I am a human jargon-to-English dictionary.
This can’t be copyediting because this isn’t English. How do you generate a template for text that does not conform to any known linguistic patterns, a stylesheet for an anti-grammar? I’m taking a break from a massive freelance-consultant project to bemoan the fact that techies cannot write. This is a dangerous blanket assertion, and one that begs proving-wrong.
Unmusical me?
So, this summer, I’m going to try to learn how to play the accordion. Or maybe just concertina. That sounds completely silly, right? Even to me. Maybe I’ve just been listening to too much Nick Cave and PJ Harvey and Ute Lemper and Judy Henske lately. Maybe I have too soft a spot for Tom Waits and the Klezmatics and One Ring Zero.
