I was thinking about my little sister, and was inspired to whip this up for her. Just a quick photoshop doodle:
impossible. cool.
I’m now learning the proper terms for things I knew by rote or instinct. I’m learning to appraise images in an entirely different way, or at least to articulate what I’m seeing differently.
First official Imaginarium trailer
I have been waiting years for this movie. Because I’m a Gilliam-obsessive, and because Tom Waits plays the Devil. Heath Ledger died in the middle of filming it, but because it takes place across multiple dimensions or otherworldly realms—and because his character wears a mask each time he travels between [...]
iPhone review is coming…
In the meantime, look at how pretty the case I got to protect my darling is: speck products | fitted case
a developing pet peeve
I’m pretty sure I’ll never like (or have any desire to watch) any movie branded with the handwritten building-block font. By which I mean: Juno, Nick & Norah, Away We Go, etc. In terms of dull ubiquity, it’s the (wannabe)indie-(wannabe)cool version of Papyrus. It’s the typographical equivalent of the MPDG.
time enough at last
I’m terrifically excited about the end of this semester and my time being my own again.
There’s just SO MUCH STUFF that’s fun that I can’t wait to start digging into. First, I need to do something about my website and blog. Every year or so I get bored of the design of my website, and this year I have a very special idea about folding them together

So, with this being a recession and all, I suppose imaginary shopping is the best way to go when it comes to luxury goods. In which case I’d shell out the big nonexistent bucks for one of these conjunctive lovelies: A deluxe carrying case for an ampersand, designed by Marc Johns.
gorgeous retro book design
Ohhhh…pretty! (Some favorites from the much-larger “I Can Read Movies” series by spacesick.)
Yes I Want Please
The Bibliochaise. The Bookshelf Made of Books. Rebound Design’s recycled Book Bags—I’m rather partial to the Chicago Manual of Style. And the Bookcase Staircase, which you just have to click on through to see to believe.

My brand-newly redesigned portfolio website is up! positdesign.comPlease take a peek. If you find any problems with it, email me ASAP at hello@positdesign.com. I’m aware of a few issues with some older versions of IE, and those should be resolved by the end of the calendar year.
more changes
Some readers have no doubt noticed that the layout of this blog changed dramatically a few weeks ago, from the old pink-and-green. That’s not the only change. My portfolio website, positdesign.com, is about 70% flipped to a beautiful brand-new template that I built for it.
Boston represent!
I’m digging the typographic city neighborhood posters by Ork Posters!.
MBTA futuremaps
This concept came to my attention about a month ago, but it’s just fantastic enough to share. A Boston-based designer and blogger created a set of hypothetical MBTA system maps, demonstrating what a useful subway would look like—one that would be both worth the prices we pay, and comparable to the scope of other major cities’ public transportation.
A little something on a Saturday
Terrifying because so many are true: 25 Reasons You Might Be A Hardcore Graphic/Web Designer. Numbers 4-7 had me laughing pretty hard. Eleven and twelve were uncanny. 16, 19, 23, 25….It’s a fabulous list!(via freelanceswitch)
