I've been, well—I hate to used the word "blessed" because I don't necessarily believe in a big sky-deity doling out blessings, and I don't want to say "lucky enough to," because I hope there's something in me attracting wonderful people, but—I know and love and respect and am known, loved, and respected by some pretty phenomenal people. And I feel blessed every day that they are in my life. I'd… Continue reading
I've been blogging for over a decade. That's a really long time. Continue reading

In ninth-grade science class, we watched a documentary about the discovery of the double helix, and it left me blazing indignant with anger. James Watson and Francis Crick, the two men who won the Nobel Prize for this discovery, had stolen essential research from the offices of an x-ray crystallographer named Rosalind Franklin, without which they never would have deduced the helical nature of DNA. Watching how she was treated… Continue reading
Two years ago, I wrote a fairly comprehensive running commentary on the 2006 Academy Awards nominations. This year, I've been fortunate to have access to Academy screeners and have seen over a dozen nominated movies. Continue reading
I had a spectacular time at Patrick's wedding last weekend. The weather in Maryland was beautiful (very hot!), and it was wonderful to see friends who moved away from Boston years ago, all in one place, all celebrating two people so dear to us. I am so excited about the status of the portfolio site, which I'm using as a final project in my Web Development class, and I haven't even written a line of code yet. It has a name, an architecture, and a color scheme. I'm delighted with how my two classes are intersecting. Continue reading
Oscar Night is my all-time favorite holiday, but it can creep up on me. (Halloween is a close second). I am a giant dork for movies. I'm also a ridiculous cinema-snob. While I know that Tremors and The Lion in Winter are not on the same level, I'll defend one's merits just as relentlessly as the other's. (They are equally quotable!) Yup, I like movies. Here's another small voice adding itself to the whirlwind.
That's not quite accurate—my voice has been here in the blogosphere all along, for the past six or seven years, in various other guises. I'm starting anew for several reasons. The most relevant (and the simplest) is that as I attempt to build a career for myself, as I feel out what I want to do and where I want to be… Continue reading
