resolution

The last time I made a New Year's resolution was at least a decade ago, and I think I resolved myself against New Year's resolutions. Kind of like giving up Catholicism for Lent. Anyway, this year, inspired by unclutterer.com, nubbytwiglet.com, and my paid-off credit cards, and abetted by the Harvard semester leaving me class-free for a whole month, I'm embarking on a huge project to purge my… Continue reading

City Dance Party!! (arrgh.)

When I arrived home today, it was to the sight of DJ equipment being set up in front of City Hall, which is pretty much the front yard of Cambridge. There was a big sign announcing the "City Dance Party" tonight. My first thought was "oh, crap."Luckily, the fabulous Ms. Devon Govoni had invited me to a BBQ at an art gallery a few blocks from home, and when the… Continue reading

Two years ago today, I met my love.

I wasn't expecting him. He is John Stewart, Henry Rollins, Bruce Campbell, Anthony Bourdain, and Agent Dale Cooper rolled into one amazing man. He says that I have a wonderful singing voice, and I believe him. He teases me for my goofy laugh and inability to whistle. He cooks me amazing things, and introduced me to some of my favorite foods—raw oysters, fish, avocado, mushrooms, artichoke hearts—I used to be a terribly… Continue reading

I made bagels.

Of course the first thing I do when I have a whole evening to myself is decide to bake something so intense, time-consuming, ambitious, and complicated that it borders on madness. But I got to break out the dough hook for my Kitchenaid stand mixer for the first time! A few weeks ago, Smitten Kitchen's bronx-worthy bagels recipe caught my eye. I bought all of the ingredients last week, including… Continue reading

things that I bought that I love, part ii

I've been a little bit off-the-grid over the past three weeks. My classes are insanely time-consuming, my sister will be a married woman exactly two weeks from now, and I've got some exciting new things in the pipeline.I've also got some exciting new things in my life: my boyfriend and I have been very acquisitive lately. It's cute; it's like we're nesting. Here are some of our new… Continue reading

Best boyfriend ever.

I did a lot of housecleaning this week. This morning, I had the following conversation with my boy. Me: I see these giant spiderwebs all over the house, but I've never seen a single spider. It's so weird. Boy: [offhandedly] I've seen spiders. Continue reading

It’s a good new year.

I'm so glad I used a fraction of my zillion hours of banked time-off to extend the holiday into the Inauguration; this was just a fantastic weekend.I've been invited to put some art in a ladies'-only Valentine's Day themed show at All Asia next month; more on that closer to the event. I'm thinking sculptural, but it also depends on how much time I'm willing to put into making something… Continue reading

election night

This election is crazy. It's like a giant weight has been lifted; one friend said today he feels like he's been fighting cancer for eight years, and woke up this morning cured. I understand that nothing will be better or perfect overnight, but at least we're not veering off the tracks anymore. Continue reading
