Too fat to be a rock star?

Too fat to be a rock star?

The Dresden Dolls have been sort of on the fringes of my life for a good seven or eight years. And I’ve developed a sort of tacit hometown loyalty. So even though I’m not the huge fan that so many people see the potential for me to be, I was pretty sickened when this news item came across feministing.com today.

So, I guess the general rule on dating sites is towards the highbrow so you look deep, but this guy just looks like a moron.

Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?

My boyfriend and I were waiting for a green line train this weekend, and noted this juxtaposition of a pair of spectacularly ill-conceived advertisements; each seemed determined to turn off its audience from their products/services in a singularly aggressive way. First, let’s look at AirTran. They’ve had some seriously bad [...]

pick your holiday; here’s a lil something sweet.

The last time I went to Davis, I discovered a brand-new Boston Sports Club on top of a brand-new CVS and it felt apocalyptic. That’s not my Davis Square. That said, I’ve had the Davis Square Midnight Madness event on my calendar for weeks. Besides fantastic sales at three of [...]

I have a teaser website up, for real. It’s at http://positdesign.com. Incidentally, dating somebody who has copyright [...]

New Shoe Review & a Love-Letter to Boston

New Shoe Review & a Love-Letter to Boston

Sunday afternoon, I found myself at one of my favorite intersections in Boston: Boylston and Newbury, right by Copley Square. The weather was all wrong for being there, but I had a long-overdue appointment to match my winter-bleh to my summer-golden haircolor, and my salon is directly across from the Public Library. Athena Salon, formerly Linea Aveda.

I am a human jargon-to-English dictionary.

I am a human jargon-to-English dictionary.

This can’t be copyediting because this isn’t English. How do you generate a template for text that does not conform to any known linguistic patterns, a stylesheet for an anti-grammar? I’m taking a break from a massive freelance-consultant project to bemoan the fact that techies cannot write. This is a dangerous blanket assertion, and one that begs proving-wrong.

It’s only four or five weeks into the semester, but my ‘Writing for Marketing and Public Relations’ class is already affecting the way I read. For example, only because of this class, I was curious enough to open and read a fundraising letter from my undergraduate college. It was excruciatingly well written (with the exception of the phrase “behooves us.” Nothing behooves in fundraising. It “is essential that we.”)
