http://theimpossiblecool.tumblr.com/ is a website I could gladly pack up and run off to live inside of.
It’s just one brilliant photograph of one undeniably cool person a day, but not every day: Marlene Dietrich, Ernest Hemingway, Françoise Hardy, Marlon Brando, Sophia Loren, Steve McQueen.
For a whole week, the blog featured portraits of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg.
It’s amazing. The page design is so clean, the lines of the fashions are so clean, the people and their portraits are so beautiful. I even approve of the font decisions.
And recently, I’ve been taking a film course. It’s a great joy to me, a great antidote to my programming class, and I’m learning a lot that my formal art and photography and design classes never taught me, primarily when it comes to image composition. No one has really drilled that into me since Mrs. Wegman explained the 10-30-60 rule and the rule of three and the golden mean.
I’m now learning the proper terms for things I knew by rote or instinct. I’m learning to appraise images in an entirely different way, or at least to articulate what I’m seeing differently.
I found this on theimpossiblecool. And I can now say, wow! What an incredible z-axis!
