When I arrived home today, it was to the sight of DJ equipment being set up in front of City Hall, which is pretty much the front yard of Cambridge. There was a big sign announcing the “City Dance Party” tonight. My first thought was “oh, crap.”
Luckily, the fabulous Ms. Devon Govoni had invited me to a BBQ at an art gallery a few blocks from home, and when the “The Chicken Dance” started blaring through my living room windows, I got out of there.
This is what I came home to about ten minutes ago:
Yes, there are giant KLEIG LIGHTS in the middle of the street right outside my apartment. Mass Ave is closed. This started about SIX HOURS AGO. And it’s still going really, really strong. And it’s REALLY LOUD.
I live in one of my all-time favorite neighborhoods in the U.S. of A. I love my city; I have no problem with crazy Friday nights. I appreciate that people need catharsis right now. But I have absolutely no desire to be out there.
