I’m terrifically excited about the end of this semester and my time being my own again.
There’s just SO MUCH STUFF that’s fun that I can’t wait to start digging into. First, I need to do something about my website and blog. Every year or so I get bored of the design of my website, and this year I have a very special idea about folding them together a bit more, with design. I helped one of my freelance clients do a massive integration of blogspot into her website that I might try, or else I’ll build out my portfolio in wordpress. I’ve yet to experiment there, and my php savvy will come in handy.
On the web design front, my best friend in the world, bona fide rock star and serious celebrity poet, is coming over tomorrow to work on his website with me; I’ll be doing the work. And then my other best friend in the world, one of the terribly few people from high school I choose to have in my life, has her own huge web venture on the horizon; she’s become an incredible inspiring NYC social-media maven. I’m designing her logo/identity and masthead.
Then, there’s art. I’m making real art again. I exhibited in two group shows last year, and I want to keep that up. I have three invitations to show on my plate right now, and two works-in-progress: the David Lynch-inspired sculptural piece I mentioned last week, which I may submit to the “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” exhibit; and a trio of small (6″x9″) paintings that I’ll probably enter in the FPAC summer show. Every time my boy comes home and sees me making art, he gets so happy; he’s amazingly supportive and duly awed by my talent. That should be no surprise, since my sketches caught his eye even before I did. Yes, I love the how-we-met story a bit too much.
And, there’s the art my boyfriend and I are making together. And that makes me beyond happy. I’ve dated poets before, which is crazy-times, but never another visual artist. And, oh, I love him, and the things he makes—in studio and in the kitchen. And I love that our home is finally beginning to look like a place where two artists live: the walls are full of things we make. We also have a list, hanging on the fridge, of sixteen short films (mostly humorous) that we’re going to produce under the aegis “c-squared.” Some will be live action, some flash animation, some a combination of both. The website I’m building for this will launch late this summer, or early fall. We’re gonna go viral. He’s writing scripts and songs; I’m handling the technical bits, though he’ll produce certain visual elements; and we’ll both act and direct. For our anniversary this June, we’re forgoing big gifts to buy a video camera and equipment. Which is a gift.
