Oscar season again: A gauntlet.

Oscar season again: A gauntlet.

Two years ago, I wrote a fairly comprehensive running commentary on the 2006 Academy Awards nominations in the weeks between the announcement and the ceremony.

I’m thinking of doing another very public, very in-depth analysis of this year’s race, because I’ve been fortunate to have access to Academy screeners and have seen over a dozen nominated movies this year (and had seen like, two, that year), and because I had an astonishing success rate that year (five out of six correct) despite the fact that I didn’t bother predicting a Best Actress in a Leading Role winner—I got every other category (so technically five out of five correct!), and did predict that Helen Mirren would make best-dressed lists!

And I challenge you to join me. Especially if you happen to be my sister! So, here’s how the game is played. We work in order based on the list at oscars.com: starting with Best Actor in a Leading Role. We work fully inclusively down the list, including the artistic areas, through Directing, then skip all of the minor categories between Directing and Best Picture, and then jump to both Writing categories. Since I copped out on Lead Actress last year, we each get one non-answer—not a pass! You have to explain why you can’t decide. Would you like to set deadlines for each blog entry to be posted by, or can we each keep our own pace, and risk non-completion?

Any other rules you’d like to set or change, or guidelines to follow? Comment!
