I was struck by the ever-slightest bit of panic when I realized that Christmas—and my trip to California—is next week. Too much to do in too little time.
And in other holiday-induced panics, I’m pretty sure that my sister and I each got a Cabbage Patch doll the year they were this frenzied over. I vaguely remember overhearing my parents wondering how they would get them for us; they were pretty super-expensive in addition to being sold out everywhere. But one of our great-uncles came through somehow and it was something of a miracle; even our parents seemed surprised. I think mine was named “Brittany Victoria” or something that sounded terribly snooty and aspirational at the time.
I’m struck by the fact that News Anchor Hair really hasn’t changed at all in the past 25 years.
