Oscar Night is my all-time favorite holiday, but it can creep up on me. (Halloween is a close second). I am a giant dork for movies. I’m also a ridiculous cinema-snob. While I know that Tremors and The Lion in Winter are not on the same level, I’ll defend one’s merits just as relentlessly as the other’s. (They are equally quotable!) Yup, I like movies. And I love Oscar Night. And I am so comfortable in that lovely monthlong Christmas night between anticipating and receiving, otherwise known as the-noms-are-in.
One of my huge plans for this blog—and incidentally, a little hook to attempt to grow a readership—was to blog a category a day between the nominations announcement and the ceremony. I’m not letting a little thing like only having been in a theater 6 times this past year phase me. It probably just would have filled the timeline. But real life intervened, and so I’m caught very, very short. I’m shocked that the Oscars are this Sunday! I don’t even have a party planned. But, I do have rough drafts of a few categories worth of contenders. And I will polish and post and build on as many of them as I can between now and the night.
This isn’t going to be a pop-culture or movie blog, but we can start things off with a pop. After all, it’s good enough for champagne…
